The Power of Music

I was catching up on emails in my mom's room when I received a text that Queen had just opened the Academy Awards performing "We will Rock You".

I played it for my mom, and she said she remembered them from my adolescent years blasting Queen through the house.

Although hearing Queen was not as stimulating to my mom as it was to me, it reminded me of the incredible documentary "Alive Inside" which chronicled the amazing effects of having dementia patients listen to music, particularly music they personally liked already.

Music therapy has been proven to heighten mood, elicit verbalization and make people more communicative after they've heard music they enjoy. 2010 study found "Alzheimer’s patients who were put through a series of memory tests learned more lyrics when they were set to music rather than just spoken". It seems that music is stored in the subcortical and cortical area that aren't as affected by Alzheimer's.

Watch this astounding trailer, get the documentary and please join the amazing Alive Inside Coalition.

My family already knows I am a Queen fanatic; to make things easy on everyone here is my play list is: albums "Queen 1" through "News of the World" or if that's too difficult just "A Night at the Opera" 24/7 will be perfect.

P.S. Congratulations Rami Malek on your Oscar!
